San Diego Padres manager Craig Stammen eyes postseason with prospect Ethan Salas

San Diego Padres manager Craig Stammen is nearing the end of his first season as the team approaches a potential postseason berth. Stammen, a former relief pitcher who retired in 2022, took over the managerial role following a stint in the organization’s baseball operations department. His appointment was considered unexpected by many due to his lack of formal coaching experience, but he has earned support from general manager A. J. Preller.

As the team pushes for the playoffs, Stammen has indicated that highly-touted prospect Ethan Salas may be included on the postseason roster. Salas, a catcher who made his MLB debut this month, has shown significant promise in the minor leagues. Stammen noted that the team intends to provide Salas with playing time to assist the club during the final stretch of the season and potentially throughout the playoffs.
