San Diego Padres place Randy Vasquez on injured list

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vasquez was placed on the 15‑day injured list with a bruised right ankle after being struck by a comebacker from Mookie Betts during the team’s 12‑7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Vasquez fainted while heading to an X‑ray, was taken to a local emergency room, and was released after tests showed no fractures. Manager Craig Stammen said the ankle was “definitely sore” but the pitcher was “doing well” and would be evaluated further.

Catcher Freddy Fermin was also moved to the injured list (10‑day) with a head contusion following a foul‑tip to his mask; he had previously spent time on the concussion list. The Padres activated catcher Luis Campusano from the injured list and recalled reliever Alek Jacob from Triple‑A El Paso to fill roster spots. Vasquez enters the season 6‑6 with a 4.71 ERA in 17 appearances.
