San Eustaquio government says GTI oil spill fully contained

On 21 July 2026 an oil spill occurred at the Global Terminal Investment (GTI) terminal in San Eustaquio. The government announced that the spill was contained within the facility and posed no risk to public health, air quality, marine environment or nearby communities.

Authorities, including the Emergency Response Team, the Emergency Operations Center, the Human Environment and Transport Inspection (ILT) and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW), said no protective measures were required and monitoring will continue. GTI, as the private operator, is responsible for providing further information about the incident.
