San Fedele d'Intelvi faces protests over alcohol restrictions

The town of San Fedele d'Intelvi is experiencing local protests following an ordinance that restricts the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages during evening and nighttime hours. Anonymous posters have appeared throughout the town on benches, walls, and notice boards, criticizing the administration for imposing limits rather than providing social alternatives for the youth.

The regulation, which applies to certain areas of San Fedele and Castiglione d'Intelvi, mandates restrictions on alcohol service and outdoor seating. From Monday to Thursday, the ban begins at 23:00 and lasts until 06:00; on Fridays and Saturdays, it starts at 01:00, and on Sundays, it begins at midnight. Violations can result in fines ranging from 500 to 5,000 euros.

Mayor Mario Pozzi has responded to the protests by stating the measure was necessary to address concerns regarding excessive alcohol consumption and drug use, particularly among young people. While acknowledging the potential economic impact on local businesses, Pozzi expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue and evaluate modifications if concrete evidence justifies changes, though he noted that no formal requests for discussion have been submitted by merchants yet.
