San Felipe A building in Chacao to be demolished after earthquake damage

Authorities have officially decided to demolish the San Felipe A building in the La Castellana area of Chacao, Venezuela, following severe structural damage caused by recent earthquakes. Technical evaluations revealed that while external damage may not be immediately visible, the building has developed a northward tilt and suffered significant damage to several ground-floor columns.

The decision was reached during a meeting involving representatives from the National Government, the Chacao Mayor's Office, building owners, and the Ambassador of Spain. The involvement of Spanish diplomacy follows the preventive evacuation of the nearby Spanish Embassy, as well as local businesses such as the Lee Hamilton restaurant, due to proximity to the unstable structure.

The National Government and the Executive branch will assume full responsibility for the execution of the demolition. While a specific date and methodology have not yet been established, technical authorities are evaluating options to minimize impact on the surrounding area. In contrast, the nearby Monaco Building, a designated national heritage site, will not be demolished; instead, efforts will focus on its rescue and recovery.
