San Felipe authorities dismantle new illegal settlements
Authorities in San Felipe and Panquehue, Chile, have intensified efforts to prevent new illegal land occupations. Following the recent eviction of a major settlement, municipal workers, police, and provincial authorities have been dismantling newly constructed irregular dwellings along the banks of the Aconcagua River.
To combat these attempts, the San Felipe municipality has increased investment in security technology, including the use of drones for aerial surveillance and ground inspections. Local officials, including Mayor Carmen Castillo, have stated there is ‘zero tolerance’ for new settlements and are coordinating with neighboring municipalities and the Provincial Presidential Delegation to monitor identified high-risk areas.
