San Fernando announces police reforms and 2027 budget increases
The San Fernando City Council is preparing several administrative and budgetary measures aimed at improving local services and municipal organization.
Regarding public safety, the administration plans to approve measures to fill vacancies in the Local Police force through a Public Employment Offer, which has received unanimous support from unions. Additionally, new regulations for secondary police activities and a horizontal professional career system to influence agent remuneration are expected. The current internal instruction for unit assignment will not be extended after October.
On the financial front, the 2027 municipal budgets are set for initial approval, totaling 122 million euros (or 136 million including the municipal company). Key priorities include significant increases in spending for major service contracts. The street cleaning and waste collection budget has risen to nearly 15 million euros, a 42% increase over the current contract. Furthermore, the budget for parks and gardens is expected to rise from 2.25 million to 3.5 million euros. Other planned investments include a new sports pavilion and the relocation of the Elementary Music Conservatory.
