San Fernando begins €12.5 m Isla de León stadium construction
A ceremony in San Fernando marked the laying of the first stone for the new Isla de León stadium, a project costing more than €12.5 million. The work will be carried out by construction firm Guamar SA and is aimed at creating an 8,000‑seat football‑only venue that meets professional standards.
The redesign will remove the existing athletics track, bring the stands closer to the pitch, add modern dressing rooms, media facilities, hospitality areas, a medical room and improved security and accessibility features. Architect Manuel Díaz Periñán, who also directs the construction phase, said the 16‑month build must be coordinated with the club’s match schedule. Completion is targeted for November‑December 2027, allowing CD San Fernando 1940 to host higher‑level competitions.
The project is expected to boost the city’s sporting infrastructure and support the club’s growth ambitions.
