San Fernando businesses install sound-absorbing umbrellas to reduce noise

Hospitality businesses on Las Cortes street in San Fernando are completing the installation of nearly twenty sound-absorbing umbrellas to mitigate noise levels. This measure follows a municipal decree aimed at balancing the nightlife and terrace activities with the rest and well-being of local residents.

The specialized umbrellas, which cost approximately 3,000 euros each, are designed to reduce airborne noise, reverberation, and the “murmur effect.” The investment represents a significant expenditure for local business owners, totaling tens of thousands of euros.

In addition to noise reduction, the umbrellas feature a uniform green color to maintain a consistent urban aesthetic, as agreed upon with the City Council. Most businesses dismantle these structures at the end of each day, a task made difficult by the fact that each unit weighs over 65 kilograms.
