San Fernando, Chile achieves 100% door‑to‑door recycling coverage

The Municipality of San Fernando and waste‑management firm ReSimple have completed a door‑to‑door recycling programme that now covers 100% of households in the city’s urban area, benefitting more than 22,000 homes. The service began in March 2025 covering 62% of the commune and reached full urban coverage by April 2026.

The initiative, part of Chile’s Extended Producer Responsibility (Ley REP) framework, includes a clean‑point facility, 24 glass‑collection stations, collection at eight schools and over 40 commercial establishments in the HORECA sector.

Melissa Gómez, ReSimple’s operations manager, said: “Nuestro objetivo como ReSimple es acercar el reciclaje a la ciudadanía y empujar un cambio cultural hacia la sostenibilidad por medio de medidas concretas.” Mayor Pablo Silva Pérez added: “Como municipio estamos muy contentos de que hoy el 100% de la zona urbana de San Fernando cuente con recolección domiciliaria de reciclaje.”
