San Fernando commemorates the 1810 opening of the Spanish Cortes

The city of San Fernando, Spain, marked the anniversary of the opening of the Cortes Generales on September 24, 1810. This historical event occurred during the Spanish War of Independence, when the Cortes met in the Isla de León to establish national sovereignty and the separation of powers, transitioning the nation from the Old Regime toward modern constitutionalism.

Local commemorations included historical reenactments by cultural associations, such as a recreation of the oath taken by deputies at the Parroquial Church. The festivities also featured a flag-raising ceremony involving marines, parades by the Armada's Tercio, and the Feria de la Tapa at Almirante Laulhé Park.
