San Fernando implements $1.05 billion CLP river defenses
New river defenses have been constructed along the Tinguiririca River in San Fernando to protect homes and land from potential flooding during heavy rain periods. The project, located in the Bajo Los Bravo and La Arboleda de Pedehue sectors near Puente Negro, involved the installation of riprap and submerged groynes to reduce water flow velocity and mitigate erosion.
The works were funded by the O’Higgins Regional Government with an investment of approximately $1.05 billion CLP and executed by the Hydraulic Works Directorate (DOH) of the Ministry of Public Works. Officials noted that these improvements represent the final stage of long-term efforts to stabilize the river flow and extend the lifespan of existing river defenses.
