Valle Chico launches therapeutic community garden for mental health
In Valle Chico, the municipal program ‘Sembrando Bienestar’ is utilizing therapeutic horticulture to support mental health. The initiative provides a space for emotional accompaniment, learning, and social interaction for approximately 15 participants, including children, youth, and older adults.
Mayor Gustavo Saadi noted that the project serves as a therapeutic tool to help manage stress and anxiety through direct contact with nature. The project is being developed progressively with support from agronomic professionals and workshop leaders, coordinating efforts between the La Tablada elderly device and the Southern Therapeutic Device.
Produce from the garden will be used for the participants' own consumption, with any surplus intended for community dining rooms. The municipality also plans to offer technical assistance to families to encourage home gardening for self-consumption or commercialization.
