Buenos Aires regularizes unauthorized hydraulic works in Salado River Basin
The Government of Buenos Aires has launched a special program to regularize hydraulic works in the Salado River Basin that were constructed without the necessary permits. These works, primarily secondary and tertiary drainage systems, are currently operational and play a vital role in managing water surpluses in the northwest region of the province.
Established by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services under the Water Code (Law No. 12,257), the initiative aims to resolve long-standing issues in rural areas where natural drainage is underdeveloped. The first stage of the program will cover the Basin Committees of subregions A2, A3, and B3, which include districts such as Junín, Lincoln, 9 de Julio, and Bragado.
Many of these interventions were executed by municipalities or local producers to complement the existing surface drainage network. The program seeks to incorporate these structures into the legal framework to facilitate better management, maintenance, and technical adaptation, rather than treating them strictly as unauthorized constructions.
