San Francesco: Pilgrims gather at La Verna Sanctuary

Approximately 1,500 pilgrims are gathering at the Sanctuary of La Verna in the province of Arezzo to commemorate the encounter between Saint Francis and the Crucifix. The event involves a traditional overnight vigil where pilgrims ascend the mountain on foot to engage in prayer.

Massimo Fusarelli, the Minister General of the Friars Minor, is scheduled to preside over the celebrations. The religious observances include a Mass, a procession to the Chapel of the Stigmata, and specific retreats designed for young participants. The sanctuary remains a significant site for those reflecting on the historical moment when Saint Francis received the stigmata.
