San Francisco 49ers face roster challenges amid rising injury list

The San Francisco 49ers are managing significant roster challenges due to injuries as they prepare for their Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Defensive tackle C. J. West has been placed on injured reserve to undergo surgery for bone chips in his knee. To fill his spot, the team signed defensive lineman Naquan Jones from the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad.

The team's wide receiver depth is also under pressure. Mike Evans missed Wednesday's practice with a hip injury, though the setback is not considered serious. Other wide receivers, including Demarcus Robinson and De’Zhaun Stribling, have also dealt with injuries. This has led to speculation regarding potential trades for players like Indianapolis Colts' DeForest Buckner or the pursuit of free agents, though some analysts rule out high-profile options like Tyreek Hill.

Despite these setbacks, the 49ers hold a 2-0 record. Tight end George Kittle attributed the strong start to offensive continuity and the high level of play from quarterback Brock Purdy, who has recorded five touchdowns through two games.
