San Francisco 49ers prepare for historic NFL game in Melbourne
The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams are preparing for a historic NFL regular-season game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. The 49ers have arrived early in Melbourne to acclimate to the 17-hour time difference and enjoy the local culture, including the city's coffee scene. Head coach Kyle Shanahan, who initially expressed reservations about the long-distance travel, has since embraced the trip, noting the team feels prepared and expects strong fan support.
In contrast, the Rams are planning a shorter trip, departing Los Angeles on Tuesday for a Thursday arrival. The Rams have chartered a Qantas A380 to manage the 15-hour flight.
Regarding player availability, the 49ers have confirmed that defensive end Nick Bosa is expected to play following his recovery from an ACL injury. Tight end George Kittle is also likely to participate after recovering from a torn Achilles. However, the team will be without defensive end Sam Okuayinonu, who has been placed on injured reserve due to a broken foot.
