The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Patrick Taylor Jr. on the injured reserve list. To fill the resulting roster vacancy, the team re-signed veteran running back Khalil Herbert.

Herbert, who was previously released by the 49ers on August 17, returns to the roster ahead of a preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert, a former sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech, has accumulated over 1,900 career rushing yards and nine touchdowns during his NFL career, which includes stints with the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Jets.
