San Francisco 49ers unlikely to trade Mac Jones due to high asking price
Speculation regarding a potential trade for San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones has diminished as the team's asking price remains high. Reports indicate that the 49ers would require significant draft capital, potentially a Day 2 pick, to facilitate a deal.
This high valuation contributed to the New York Giants opting for other solutions following a season-ending injury to their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Instead of pursuing Jones, the Giants acquired JJ McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a 2024 first-round pick.
Analysts suggest the 49ers are unlikely to trade Jones because his value as a competent backup is high, especially given Brock Purdy's performance and the potential for roster aging. Other teams, including the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, have also appeared to move toward different options rather than meeting San Francisco's trade requirements.
