San Francisco bar owner arrested for alleged baseball bat attack

Cyril Hackett, 63, the owner of San Francisco sports bars Mad Dog in the Fog and Kezar Pub, was arrested following an alleged baseball bat attack on an employee of a nearby clothing store.

The incident reportedly began on a Friday during a parking dispute outside Further, a Grateful Dead-themed shop on Haight Street. Witnesses and cellphone footage suggest a confrontation occurred when Hackett allegedly backed his BMW into a white van belonging to a Further employee who was waiting for the parking space.

Approximately eight hours after the initial dispute, Hackett allegedly entered the Further clothing store after closing time. Surveillance footage shows a man appearing to be Hackett forcing his way into the shop and striking something with a baseball bat. A source reported that Hackett hit the employee in the leg before grabbing a jacket from a rack and attempting to flee.

Hackett was booked into jail early Saturday morning on suspicion of second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office.
