San Francisco Bay Area offers free museum days and summer activities
In August, Bay Area residents can enter the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor without charge on Saturdays, provided they show proof of residency. Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders also receive free general admission on the first full weekend of the month. Additional museums, including the Oakland Museum of California, Napa Valley Museum, Computer History Museum, San José Museum of Art, and The Tech Interactive, have designated free‑admission days throughout August.
The region also hosts a variety of summer events: the San Francisco Aerial Arts Festival at Fort Mason, the Gravenstein Apple Fair in Sebastopol, a free pre‑party for the Outside Lands Festival at The Chapel, and a free outdoor roller‑disco at the Marin County Fairgrounds. Other activities include yoga classes at the Ferry Building, a matcha tasting at KQED Headquarters, and a special dinner at the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant.
