San Francisco de Campeche celebrates 486 years of foundation

The city of San Francisco de Campeche is celebrating the 486th anniversary of its foundation. The festivities began with the traditional Caminata de la Campechanidad, a parade through the Historic Center featuring music, dance, and traditional attire such as cross-stitch embroidery and lace.

Governor Layda Sansores highlighted the importance of the date for collective memory and the preservation of cultural identity. The celebrations also included 'La Verbena Campechana,' a traditional music and dance competition organized by the Alcaldía de Campeche and the company 'La Verbena.' The contest awarded 45,000 pesos in prizes to winners including the 'Viva La Danza' children's company and Marlene Ayuso Vázquez's independent group. The events aim to promote local talent and ensure the generational transfer of regional customs.
