San Francisco de Ojuera faces violence and displacement
In San Francisco de Ojuera, Santa Bárbara, Honduras, residents of four communities—La Palca, La Vega, Las Chorreras, and El Copinol—are facing severe instability due to alleged criminal activity. Reports indicate that death threats and extortion have forced numerous teachers to abandon more than 10 educational centers, including kindergartens and primary schools, creating uncertainty for the upcoming school year.
The violence has also led to significant displacement and property damage. Approximately 86 homes have reportedly been burned, and other properties have been targeted by gunfire. Local testimonies suggest that up to 50% of the population has fled the affected areas to seek safety, leaving behind homes, livestock, and land.
