San Francisco Democrats rescind endorsement of Manny Yekutiel

The San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee voted 29-0 on Sunday night to rescind its August endorsement of Manny Yekutiel for the District 8 supervisor seat. The decision follows allegations of sexual assault against Yekutiel, which led him to suspend his campaign on October 1. Despite the rescission, Yekutiel’s name remains on the ballot.

Following the rescission, the committee voted 20-8 to endorse Gary McCoy, a former aide to Representative Nancy Pelosi, for the position. The vote caused internal friction within the party; several allies of party chair Nancy Tung voted against making a new endorsement, arguing that voters should decide the outcome.

During the meeting, Tung addressed criticisms regarding the party’s sexual misconduct policy, stating, “We did not do right by survivors.” She expressed commitment to serving her term and revising the policy with input from those affected.
