San Francisco faces EEOC legal action over DEI discrimination probe
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a federal court action to compel the City and County of San Francisco to comply with an administrative subpoena. The legal move follows allegations that the city has withheld critical records during an investigation into a discrimination claim.
The investigation stems from a complaint filed by a former nurse manager at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The employee alleges she was subjected to a hostile work environment after being required to attend 16 mandatory ‘anti-racism fellowship seminars’ led by contractor Dante King. The complainant claims King made derogatory and vitriolic statements regarding white people and white women, leading to her constructive discharge.
The EEOC seeks a court order to force the city to produce documents, including the trainer’s curriculum and an unredacted list of seminar attendees. The agency alleges that despite multiple extensions and reminders, the city has provided only fragmented information that leaves substantial gaps in the investigation. The city previously directed the EEOC to the San Francisco Study Center, a nonprofit that contracts with King, which stated it did not possess the requested materials.
