San Francisco firefighters rescue wild parrot from balcony

San Francisco firefighters successfully rescued a wild parrot after it became trapped on a third-floor balcony in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood. The bird, a member of the area’s well-known wild parrot flock, had its head wedged between glass panels on a balcony undergoing construction.

To perform the extraction, a firefighter climbed onto the roof of the occupied residence and lowered a ladder to the balcony. Rescuers carefully slid the bird upward to free its head, wrapped it in a towel, and handed it to an officer for medical inspection.

Animal Care and Control reported that the parrot showed no injuries to its wings, legs, or neck. Following the inspection, the bird was released and rejoined its flock in a nearby tree, where the other parrots reportedly squawked in celebration.
