Rafael Devers returns to Fenway Park as Giants lose to Red Sox

Rafael Devers returned to Fenway Park on Friday night, marking his first appearance at the stadium since being traded from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants in June 2025. The return was characterized by a mixed reception from the Boston crowd, consisting of both boos and applause, particularly after a tribute video was played honoring his nine seasons with the franchise.

During the game, Devers hit a solo home run, his 26th of the season, but the Boston Red Sox ultimately defeated the Giants 6-4. The Red Sox victory was fueled by a three-run home run from Willson Contreras, which traveled 450 feet over the Green Monster. Sonny Gray earned the win for Boston, pitching six innings, while Aroldis Chapman secured his 28th save.

Devers addressed the media regarding his departure from Boston, stating he does not wish to dwell on the past and views the trade as “the business of baseball.” He noted that he has matured through the experience and is focused on his current role as a first baseman for the Giants.
