Cleveland Guardians beat San Francisco Giants 5-2 to win series

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-2 in the interleague series finale at Progressive Field, marking Cleveland’s first home series victory since late June. Gavin Williams led the Guardians' pitching effort, striking out 11 batters over 5 2/3 innings. The win moves Cleveland within one game of the American League wild-card spot.

Cleveland established an early 3-0 lead in the first inning through RBI singles from José Ramírez and Patrick Bailey, along with a sacrifice fly by Nathaniel Lowe. Ramírez’s single was the 1,751st of his career. While Willy Adames hit his 200th career home run—a two-run shot in the fourth inning—to bring the Giants within one, Cleveland added insurance runs via RBI singles from Steven Kwan and Brayan Rocchio.

The Giants' loss marks their eighth consecutive road series defeat. The series also featured the Major League debut of Giants pitcher Matt ‘Tugboat’ Wilkinson, who served as an opener in a previous 1-0 Giants victory during the same trip.
