Ericka Alvarez defends husband after viral Giants broadcast clip
Ericka Alvarez, a woman featured in a viral San Francisco Giants broadcast clip, has spoken out to defend her husband, Ramses, following intense online backlash. The footage, which garnered over 43 million views, showed Alvarez returning to her seat at Oracle Park while carrying an infant in a carrier and multiple trays of food, while Ramses remained seated. During the live NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast, announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper jokingly dubbed her ‘mom of the year,’ implying an unequal division of labor.
In a Substack post, Alvarez clarified that the brief clip lacked context. She explained that she had gone to the restroom and offered to pick up food for her husband on her way back. While Ramses had offered to hold their daughter, Anastasia, Alvarez chose to keep her in the carrier. She further stated that Ramses had asked if she wanted to eat first, and she declined because she had already eaten while he had not.
The online reaction escalated significantly, with Alvarez reporting that the family received death threats and harassment. She emphasized that the internet was judging their entire marriage based on a few seconds of footage, noting that the outing was intended to help Ramses honor a recently deceased friend.
