San Francisco Giants split doubleheader with Diamondbacks

The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks played a doubleheader at Oracle Park on Saturday. Following a ceremony to retire Jeff Kent’s number, the Giants won the second game of the day 7-2, splitting the doubleheader after losing the first game.

In the night cap, 23-year-old Yunior Marte made his Major League debut on the mound for the Giants. Marte navigated his first inning with relative ease despite an initial walk. The Giants took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Jonah Cox stole second and third base, allowing Bryce Eldridge to drive in a run.

The Diamondbacks tied the game in the third inning when Lars Nootbaar hit an RBI double that allowed Ildemaro Vargas to score. The Giants' victory was supported by a strong performance from their pitching staff, which included five relievers who helped shut down the Diamondbacks' offense.
