San Francisco Giants weigh trading shortstop Willy Adames and other key players

The San Francisco Giants, sitting 36‑50 and out of playoff contention, are exploring moves at the July trade deadline to reduce their $183.1 million payroll. General manager Zach Minasian said the club is open to trading any of three high‑salary position players—shortstop Willy Adames, third‑baseman Matt Chapman and infielder Rafael Devers—though he declined to name specific targets publicly.

Adames, signed to a seven‑year, $182 million deal, is hitting .230 with 14 home runs and 32 RBIs. Devers, under a ten‑year, $313.5 million contract, is posting a .240 average with 15 homers and 44 RBIs. Chapman, on a six‑year, $151 million extension, is batting .235 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs but is currently on the injured list with an abdominal strain.

The Giants also hold the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft and are targeting a pitcher, indicating a possible shift toward rebuilding while shedding salary.
