San Francisco health officials investigate tuberculosis cases at strip club
The San Francisco Department of Public Health is investigating two confirmed cases of tuberculosis associated with The Crazy Horse, a strip club located on Market Street. The first case was identified in early October, prompting ongoing contact tracing efforts to identify other potentially infected individuals.
Health officials stated that the current risk to the general public remains low. Because tuberculosis is an airborne bacterial disease, experts note that transmission risk is higher in crowded environments with poor ventilation.
Medical professionals cautioned that these two cases do not necessarily confirm an outbreak, as it is not yet certain if both infections occurred at the establishment. Due to the slow growth of the bacteria, contact tracing may require repeated testing over several weeks to ensure accurate results.
