San Francisco launches citizen participation tool for urban development

The Municipality of San Francisco has launched a new citizen participation tool called ‘Co-creación. Tu ciudad, tu voz’ (Co-creation. Your city, your voice) via the San Francisco App. The platform allows residents to submit proposals for urban development and support initiatives proposed by others.

To advance to a formal evaluation stage, a proposal must receive at least 690 ‘likes’, which represents 1% of the city's population. Once this threshold is met, a commission composed of representatives from various executive departments and the ICES Foundation evaluates the pre-feasibility of the initiative. This evaluation considers current regulations and the practical possibility of implementation. Reaching the required number of supporters does not guarantee automatic execution but serves as the entry point for technical analysis.
