San Francisco launches data dashboard for Mission District BART plazas
San Francisco has launched a public data dashboard to track conditions around the 16th and 24th Street BART plazas in the Mission District. The initiative is part of Mayor Daniel Lurie’s ongoing effort to address open-air drug use, illegal street vending, and sanitation issues in the area.
District 9 Supervisor Jackie Fielder reported that community ambassadors have collected 1,390 needles and reversed 15 drug overdoses since January. Despite these efforts, Fielder expressed disappointment with the progress shown in the data, noting that 311 reports regarding human and animal waste have increased since March and BART ridership at these plazas saw a slight decline in July.
The new dashboard will provide monthly updates on various metrics, including 911 calls for drugs, illegal fencing, and street-cleaning requests. While Fielder advocated for the dashboard as a positive step, she continues to push for more resources, including 24/7 community ambassadors and increased police foot patrols.
