San Francisco man charged with attempted murder in Muni bus stabbing
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced charges against 44-year-old Glenn Hopkins following a stabbing on a Muni bus near 10th and Mission streets. Hopkins faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and causing great bodily injury.
Prosecutors state the victim acted as a “good Samaritan” by intervening when Hopkins allegedly harassed and stared at two women. After the victim blocked Hopkins from approaching the women, Hopkins reportedly used a box cutter to repeatedly strike the victim in the neck and throat.
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident. Prosecutors intend to request that Hopkins be held in custody without bail, citing him as a risk to public safety.
