San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie faces scrutiny over ballot measures
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie is facing scrutiny over several charter-reform measures and fiscal decisions ahead of the November ballot. Critics have organized rallies to protest the influence of billionaire Chris Larsen, alleging that Larsen is funding efforts to centralize power and increase surveillance through drones, data centers, and Flock cameras.
Specific ballot measures under debate include Proposition D, which would change signature requirements for initiatives; Proposition E, which aims to limit oversight of city contracts; and Proposition F, which could grant the mayor authority to merge or eliminate healthcare oversight departments.
In addition to these reforms, the city is addressing a $307 million budget deficit within the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni). Proposition H proposes a 15-year parcel tax on property owners to generate $185 million annually to prevent service cuts and layoffs, presenting voters with a choice between tax increases and significant transit reductions.
