San Francisco Mayor reaches labor deal with city unions
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has reached a labor agreement with ten unions representing approximately 24,000 to 25,000 city employees. The deal provides a 12% wage increase between 2027 and 2031 and includes a guarantee of no layoffs through June 30, 2029.
This early agreement, which includes SEIU Local 1021 and IFPTE Local 21, aims to provide stability and address cost-of-living increases. When combined with existing contract raises, the total pay increase for these workers could reach 14.31% by 2031.
The deal comes as San Francisco faces significant fiscal challenges. While a recent budget helped close a short-term $642 million deficit, the city projects a $296 million deficit in fiscal year 2027, $640 million in fiscal year 2028, and a $450 million deficit for fiscal year 2029, with total shortfalls potentially reaching $936 million.
