San Francisco Truck Crash Kills E‑Scooter Rider on Market Street
On August 7, 2026 a commercial truck collided with an electric‑scooter rider at the busy intersection of Powell and Market Streets in downtown San Francisco. Police arrived at about 8:18 a.m., found the rider with life‑threatening injuries and, despite life‑saving efforts, declared the victim dead at the scene. The driver is cooperating with the San Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Unit, and investigators are checking whether the vehicle had proper licensing for Market Street. Police spokesman Officer Robert Rueca said the driver was cooperating and that the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. The incident adds to a rise in pedestrian fatalities this year, with eleven pedestrians killed in San Francisco so far in 2026, prompting temporary road closures and a city advisory for residents to avoid the area.
