San Francisco unveils Alioto's Plaza at Fisherman's Wharf

San Francisco officials have unveiled Alioto's Plaza at Fisherman's Wharf, a new public waterfront space located where the historic Alioto's restaurant once stood. The plaza was opened following the demolition of the 11,000-square-foot restaurant, which had been a local landmark since 1924 before closing permanently in 2022.

Built by the Port of San Francisco, the plaza features picnic tables, benches, landscaping, and sculptural seating designed to resemble ocean waves. The space also includes areas for pop-up retail and beverage services. Woods Beer & Wine Co. is set to begin outdoor service at the plaza later this month, with future plans to open a permanent taproom nearby.

The project is part of the ‘Fisherman’s Wharf Forward’ initiative, aimed at revitalizing the area to boost economic recovery. Mayor Daniel Lurie noted that the plaza honors the local fishing industry and provides new gathering spaces for residents and visitors.
