San Gavino Monreale advances eco-center expansion amid civic protests

In San Gavino Monreale, local authorities are advancing works to expand the inter-municipal eco-center. The project, contracted to the local firm Tholos for 126,500 euros, aims to improve waste disposal capabilities. Mayor Stefano Altea stated that the project is following the schedule, with underground services and the concrete base already completed. If successful, the expansion could increase the facility's surface area from 845 to 1,400 square meters, pending potential regional funding.

Simultaneously, a civic campaign titled ‘Il Capannone x tutti’ has launched to protest the proposed construction of the ‘Casa del Carnevale’. Residents are opposing the plan to repurpose a multipurpose warehouse, which currently hosts sports activities and serves as a Civil Protection emergency shelter. The project is estimated to cost approximately 200,000 euros from municipal funds. Campaign organizers are seeking an alternative solution that preserves both the town's historical carnival traditions and its existing community facilities.
