San Giorgio a Cremano faces 36 million euro tax collection deficit
The municipality of San Giorgio a Cremano is facing structural financial challenges due to difficulties in tax credit collection. According to the 2025 budget analysis, approximately 36.5 million euros remain to be recovered from a total of 37.8 million euros entrusted to the Agenzia delle Entrate-Riscossione. During the year, only 928,000 euros were successfully collected.
To address these issues, a tax amnesty program (rottamazione-quinquies) will be available from October 16 to December 15. This measure allows taxpayers to settle debts assigned to the collection agency between 2000 and 2023 by paying only the principal and notification costs, while waiving penalties and interest.
Despite the lack of insolvency status, the municipality is experiencing significant cash flow tensions. The reserve for doubtful accounts (FCDE) has risen to 37.1 million euros, and active residues—credits still to be collected—stand at 66.3 million euros. The municipality has relied on treasury advances for 346 days of the year, incurring over 452,000 euros in interest payments.
