San Giovanni Rotondo and Ischia honor local figures through memorials

The community of San Giovanni Rotondo is preparing to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Antonio Ciavarella, the former captain of Sant’Onofrio Calcio. On October 27, 2026, the memorial will include a religious service at the Church of Sant’Onofrio Anacoreta, followed by an eight-a-side football triangular tournament featuring teams of friends and family members.

In Ischia, local accounts recount the life of Clara Funiciello De Girolamo. Born in Ischia Ponte in 1941, Clara grew up in a large family and shared a childhood with Antonio De Girolamo. After a period of long-distance correspondence while Antonio was in New York, the couple married on August 15, 1960.
