Italy restores public lighting in San Ferdinando and Rome districts

Several Italian municipalities have completed major public lighting restoration projects to improve urban safety and efficiency.

In San Ferdinando, Mayor Gianluca Gaetano announced the definitive restoration of the public lighting system in the Rimessa district. The project resolves a technical and administrative issue that had persisted for over 20 years, which had recently caused significant darkness in the area during the summer. The administration noted that while residential electricity remained unaffected, the public lighting failure had become a political issue.

In Rome's Municipio X, lighting has been restored to via Gianfilippo Usellini in the Malafede area after nearly nine years of darkness. The project involved replacing old halogen lamps with nine high-efficiency 110-watt LED units. Coordinated by the Department of Public Works and implemented by Areti, the upgrade is expected to reduce energy consumption and operating costs by more than 50 percent. Urban Planning Councilor Maurizio Veloccia stated the intervention aims to bridge the infrastructure gap in peripheral neighborhoods and restore urban decorum.
