San Gottardo solar park construction begins despite Udine opposition

Construction has begun on the Helios 2 photovoltaic plant in San Gottardo, located within the Parco del Torre near Udine. The project consists of 3,480 panels with a total capacity of approximately 2.03 MW.

The Udine municipal administration has opposed the project since its inception in 2024, citing concerns over its compatibility with the local landscape and its proximity to residential areas. While the municipality expressed support for renewable energy in general, it argued that this specific installation threatens the natural and social value of the park, an area frequently used by pedestrians and cyclists.

Although the municipality initially attempted to block the project, the Council of State ultimately granted authorization. This case highlights the limited regulatory power of local municipalities when faced with national laws regarding renewable energy sources. A public meeting for residents of the Laipacco-San Gottardo district is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 18:30 to discuss the administrative process and the administration's evaluations.
