San Gregorio faces urban decay and vandalism concerns
The district of San Gregorio is facing significant challenges regarding urban redevelopment and public property maintenance. During a recent oversight commission meeting in L’Aquila, local councilor Paolo Romano criticized the lack of a long-term strategic plan for the area. He noted that while funds have been allocated for specific maintenance tasks, such as the extraordinary upkeep of public housing (ERP), there remains no clear vision for comprehensive revitalization.
Romano highlighted that millions of euros intended for peripheral improvements remain unutilized, leading to a perceived disparity between the city center and outlying districts. He specifically pointed to the 2016 periphery grant, noting that recent actions have been limited to the demolition of parts of a public housing building without a clear follow-up plan.
In a separate development, San Gregorio d’Ippona is dealing with acts of vandalism targeting the local municipal villa. Councilor Gregorio Lo Muto condemned the destruction of public assets, stating that such actions harm the entire community by draining municipal resources that could otherwise be used for service improvements. Lo Muto has called for enhanced security measures, including potential increases in video surveillance, alongside civic education to protect public heritage.
