San Hipólito-Xalapa highway modernization advances in Mexico

The Secretaría de Infraestructura is advancing the modernization of a 3.68-kilometer federal stretch of the San Hipólito-Xalapa highway near the urban area of Acatzingo. The project aims to expand the roadway from two to four lanes with shoulders to improve connectivity between central Puebla and Veracruz.

This infrastructure work is being carried out in coordination with the federal Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT). The project is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 million people across the region, including the municipalities of Acatzingo, Tepeaca, and Ciudad Serdán, as well as 41 surrounding localities.

During the excavation process, workers encountered areas filled with debris and waste, which has required additional time for excavation, compaction, and material transport. Despite these delays, authorities stated that the earthwork layers will be strengthened to ensure high-quality paving that meets current regulations.
