San Ignacio de Velasco: Two people killed in suspected drug-related shootings
Two individuals were shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the municipality of San Ignacio de Velasco, Santa Cruz. The killings occurred approximately 15 minutes apart.
The first victim, a 36-year-old man identified as Rodrigo O. Z., was shot around 1:00 AM. The second victim, a 22-year-old man identified as Gabriel P. F., was killed around 1:45 AM. Police recovered 21 nine-millimeter shell casings at the scene.
Departmental Police Commander Edson Fernández stated that the murders are being investigated as potential drug trafficking settlements between criminal factions. The second victim is suspected of having links to a criminal faction. These incidents occurred while a state of exception remains in effect in Bolivia, which was declared on June 20 and is set to expire on September 20.
Authorities have deployed specialized personnel to the area under the ‘Plan Frontera Segura’ to identify the perpetrators and investigate potential links to organized crime.
