San Isidro judge removed amid sexual harassment and abuse allegations

The Jury of Impeachment of Magistrates and Judicial Officials of Buenos Aires has preventively removed Ernesto Ángel Anastasio García Maañón from his position as a judge in the San Isidro Court of Appeals and Guarantees in Criminal Matters. The 76-year-old magistrate faces six charges, including sexual and workplace harassment, abuse of power, and other professional irregularities.

The allegations stem from complaints by female employees who provided evidence, including audio recordings and chat messages, documenting inappropriate comments regarding their physical appearance and clothing, as well as proposals for personal encounters.

Beyond harassment, the Public Prosecutor's Office has accused García Maañón of several other misconducts, such as mistreating employees with insulting language, issuing arbitrary orders, using state resources for personal comfort, and attempting to intimidate witnesses or influence their testimony. The San Isidro Bar Association has also filed a complaint that has been incorporated into the ongoing investigation. A new hearing is expected to take place within the next 90 days to continue the impeachment process.
