Latin American cities implement urban renewal and public space recovery projects

Various municipal governments across Latin America are implementing urban renewal and public space recovery projects to improve community safety and quality of life.

In Rionegro, Colombia, the local administration and the Antioquia Government demolished abandoned buildings in the Juan Antonio Murillo neighborhood that had become hubs for crime and drug use. Mayor Jorge Rivas emphasized that these actions aim to reclaim territory from criminal elements.

In Saltillo, Mexico, the municipal government is promoting the ‘Mi Parque Seguro’ initiative within rehabilitated parks in the Lomas del Refugio and Satélite Sur neighborhoods. This program involves community committees to ensure security and maintenance. Additionally, municipal crews have been deployed to clear debris and mud from major boulevards following heavy rains.

In Rawson, Argentina, the municipality inaugurated the renovated Plaza La Paz in the Los Plásticos neighborhood, featuring new lighting, playgrounds, and sports areas developed through community collaboration.

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the former Viernes Santo Park has been transformed into a multifunctional community space. Supported by UN agencies, the project provides recreational areas and vocational workshops to foster social integration and local entrepreneurship.
