San Jacopino: Violent street brawl sparks security concerns in Florence
A violent street brawl occurred on Sunday evening around 7:30 PM in the San Jacopino district of Florence, specifically near Viale Redi. According to reports from the Comitato Cittadini Attivi San Jacopino, two groups—described as being of South American and North African descent—engaged in a confrontation using baseball bats, belts, and a machete.
The conflict reportedly spread from Viale Redi toward Via Pacini and Via Maragliano, with some participants seeking refuge in a public garden. During the incident, parked vehicles were damaged, and a man standing on the sidewalk was struck by a vehicle, though he reportedly escaped serious injury.
The local citizens' committee has expressed deep alarm, describing the event as “pure violence” and a sign of growing illegality and chronic degradation in the neighborhood. While police arrived to patrol the area, the committee is demanding more permanent security measures, including fixed patrols, stricter alcohol sales controls, and the establishment of a ‘red zone’ for repeat offenders.
